  1. Rinse the basmati rice in cold water until the water runs clear. This will remove any excess starch and help the rice cook evenly.
  2. In a medium-sized saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add salt to taste.
  3. Add the rinsed rice to the boiling water and stir gently to prevent clumping.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and cover the saucepan with a tight-fitting lid.
  5. Allow the rice to simmer for 18-20 minutes or until all the water has been absorbed and the rice is tender and fluffy.
  6. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it sit for 5 minutes with the lid still on to allow the steam to finish cooking the rice.

  • 1-2 cinnamon sticks
  • 3-4 green cardamom pods
  • 3-4 cloves
  • 1-2 tablespoons ghee or oil
